The Wheels for Work program is a joint venture between the United Way of South Central Nebraska and Hastings Ford Lincoln. The program is designed to provide reliable transportation to those in need of a vehicle in order to obtain or retain employment. Vehicles are also used for reliable transportation to child care, school, medical appointments, and getting groceries.

The vehicles in the program start by being donated by generous individuals. Hastings Ford Lincoln then takes the vehicle and performs a safety inspection along with performing any necessary repairs in order for the vehicle to be safe and reliable. The vehicle is then professionally cleaned and ready for a family in need. The vehicle is then matched with a local family that has been nominated from one of United Way's partner agencies. All of the donated vehicles go to families residing in Adams, Clay, Nuckolls, and Webster counties.

The first Wheels for Work car recipient, Angelica, was living at the Maryland Living Center. She was at risk of losing her part-time job due to a lack of reliable transportation. After receiving a car from the Wheels for Work program, she was able to continue her education, graduate and secure a full-time job with benefits, and now earning a livable wage. With on-going financial guidance from the Community Action Partnership, she is now living independently and thriving!

The program has been off to a great start, but is in constant need of vehicles and donations.
